CHICAGO (AP) - A new television ad from Republican Bruce Rauner’s (ROW’-nur) campaign features his wife saying he “doesn’t have a social agenda” in his bid for Illinois governor.
Rauner is a Winnetka businessman making his first run for public office. He faces Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn in the November general election.
The ad is the latest effort by Rauner’s campaign to soften his image following the GOP primary. It seeks to appeal to women, independent voters and Democrats who may be turned off by conservative positions on social issues.
In it, Diana Rauner introduces herself as a lifelong Democrat. She says her husband has an economic and education agenda, and will be “a warrior” for children and taxpayers.
Bruce and Diana Rauner also appeared together in an ad earlier this month.
