OPINION:
President Obama and the Democrats claim that women earn only 77 percent of what men earn, because employers think they can get away with paying women less (“Obama pushes to close gender pay gap — yet he pays women less than men,” Web, March 20). The claim is absurd on its face.
Labor is far and away the single biggest cost to any employer. That’s the cost of the wages and benefits paid to all employees. If what the Democrats are trying to palm off is really true, it would mean that every employer in the country could cut labor costs significantly by simply firing every man there and replacing him with a woman.
Why aren’t any employers doing that? Mr. Obama and the Democrats should be challenged to explain.
