CONCORD, N.C. (AP) - The Coca-Cola 600 was delayed 27 minutes after a FOX Sports television cable snapped and fell on the racing surface.
Kyle Busch, going for a sweep at Charlotte Motor Speedway after winning the Nationwide and Truck series races, was leading when he incurred damage to his No. 18 Toyota coming off the fourth turn.
The fiber cable also got caught up underneath Marcos Ambrose’s car on the 124th lap of the 400-lap race. Mark Martin also reported some damage to his car
No drivers were injured, and it was unclear if any fans were hurt.
The cars were initially brought along pit row as workers cleared the cable from the track.
At first, NASCAR called a caution and then threw two red flags, eventually bringing teams into the pits and giving them 15 minutes to work on their cars.
During the break, Busch’s crew frantically worked to repair a number of problems to the right front wheel well. After completing repairs to the car, the crew was seen slapping high-fives after getting the car back on the track.
Busch has never won a Sprint Cup race at Charlotte Motor Speedway and has suffered his share of bad luck at the track.
But this one was unique.
The overhead camera and the main wires that support located on the front stretch of the track remained intact, but the cables that hold them in place were removed.
Prior to the restart, Ambrose was made to run five laps on his own to make up for the laps missed when he pulled into pit row and the rest of the field was under caution.
FOX Sports’ commentators apologized on the air for the delay.
