OPINION:
The morning news report had competing stories about Benghazi and the Internal Revenue Service’s slap-down of conservative nonprofits. My wife, confused, asked me how the two stories were related. I told her they weren’t. Later, after thinking about it, I realized that they are indeed related.
It’s very unusual for higher-ups in the IRS to come forward and volunteer to have their agency take a bullet — that is, unless there is a very good reason. That very good reason is a news distraction to protect the administration. Benghazi is the real quicksand pit because the White House’s fingerprints are all over that debacle, whereas the IRS brouhaha can be shown to be isolated from the White House. Is it possible that the IRS revelations are nothing more than sleights of hand by the administration to divert America’s attention away from Benghazi?
We must remember the White House is not at all averse to throwing anyone (except former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton) under the bus to save itself.
