During a recent “60 Minutes: Australia” interview that was only aired down under, rocker Bruce Springsteen was asked if he still supported President Obama, and he responded in the affirmative, that he has “no regrets” and concluded the segment by adding that Mr. Obama is a “good president.”

I don’t believe him. Mr. Springsteen’s body language — looking away from the interviewer — said the complete opposite.

Who can blame him for being disillusioned about Mr. Obama?

During the Bush presidency, Mr. Springsteen’s nightly theme was that President Bush was “trampling all over the Constitution.” Yet for someone who cares so deeply about the preservation of civil rights — even the rights of murderous terrorists — how can Mr. Springsteen reconcile Mr. Obama’s policy of indiscriminately killing human beings with drones without any judicial or congressional oversight? Moreover, with gas prices stabilized at $3.80 — more than double what they were when Mr. Obama took office five years ago — how can “Everyman” Springsteen continue to support this president?

Finally, there are the mounting impeachable scandals that are hard for even a media-savvy guy like me to keep up with: Operation Fast and Furious, Benghazi, National Security Agency wiretaps and Internal Revenue Service auditing abuses.

As a life-long Springsteen fan who knows the man and his music like the back of my hand, I’m publicly challenging Bruce Springsteen to step up and set the record straight. I’m calling for him to speak out about how he truly feels about Mr. Obama and let the chips fall where they may. While he’s at it, I’d like Mr. Springsteen to publicly apologize for partaking in the worst smear campaign in American history specifically designed to damage a U.S. commander in chief during wartime: the “liar” labeling of President George W. Bush from 2003 to 2008.
