The Department of Homeland Security has been reaching out to Jewish groups across the country, urging them to step up their security in the wake of a series of terrorist attacks against Israeli targets overseas, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told Congress Wednesday.

Homeland Security officials hosted a telephone conference call for representatives of Jewish community groups and synagogues last week, she told a hearing of the House Homeland Security Committee.

Miss Napolitano briefly addressed the issue as tensions over Iran’s nuclear program continued to escalate and Israeli authorities blamed Tehran for a series of thwarted assassinations of Israeli diplomatic targets in Bangkok, New Delhi and Tiblisi, Georgia.

There was no specific credible intelligence about any threats to U.S. targets, she said, adding it is “certainly a situation that bears watching.”
