OPINION:
I loved the “tests” the liberal academics came up with to supposedly prove that those darn Tea Party members are racists (“Academics’ papers take dim view of tea partyers,” Page I, Sept. 5).
Apparently, you are a racist if you believe the following: The Irish, Italians and Jews overcame prejudice; no group should receive special favors purely on the basis of their race; trying harder would help blacks to succeed.
The last tests of this kind were administered four centuries ago, at the Salem witch trials. There, the accusers weighed down the accused with rocks and tossed them in a pond. If they didn’t drown, they were witches and were sentenced to a different death.
It’s charming to see that same refined sense of justice and fair play is still alive today in our faculty lounges.
