MORGANTOWN, W.VA. (AP) - Media reports say that Bill Stewart is out at West Virginia and coach-in-waiting Dana Holgorsen will take over.
The Charleston Daily Mail and The Charleston Gazette say Stewart is out and ESPN is reporting Holgorsen will be promoted immediately.
WVU athletic director Oliver Luck and Stewart’s new attorney, Michael Benninger of Morgantown, didn’t return phone messages from The Associated Press. Athletic department spokesman Mike Fragale said Friday night he couldn’t confirm the reports.
Holgorsen was hired as offensive coordinator and eventual successor in December, but West Virginia prepared for possible friction between he and Stewart. Holgorsen’s contract included a clause that gave him a raise if he became head coach before or during this season.
