WASHINGTON | Pepco says more than 195,000 customers have been left without power because of the snowstorm.

A spokesman said Wednesday night that the heavy, wet snow, lightning and unsafe travel conditions have prevented crews from getting to areas where service is needed. Crews were in staging areas in Rockville and Forestville.

Assistance will be coming in once the damage is assessed, the spokesman said.

Pepco, which which serves Washington and Prince George’s and Montgomery counties in Maryland, came under fire last summer when a storm left more than 430,000 customers without power, some for days.
