SCOLDING GOOGLE: The Federal Trade Commission chastised Google for collecting personal information transmitted over unsecured Wi-Fi networks without realizing it was grabbing the data for several years.
NO PUNISHMENT: The regulatory agency closed its investigation into the intrusion without taking action because it’s satisfied with recent steps that Google has taken to improve its internal privacy controls.
STILL UNRESOLVED: Google’s gathering of the personal data remains under legal scrutiny in the U.S. in an investigation by a coalition of state attorneys general as well as in several other countries where the wireless surveillance took place.
