OPINION:
There are those who discount the impact the Tea Party has and will have on our political scene. They think it is a blip on the radar screen that will soon fade away. They are wrong.
The Tea Party gives voice to the people who had given up on politics, people with a festering feeling of disenchantment. For years “we the people” felt powerless to enact change as politics as usual just kept rolling along in both parties.
The Tea Party has given focus and power back to the people. Not only have they helped cause a sea change in Congress, the public servants who were not up for election Nov. 2 have had a shot fired across their bows. The people have spoken and are watching. Elected officials should know that their tenure isn’t permanent. The entire Congress is on notice.
Now with time to recruit better-qualified candidates, the next election could provide another “shellacking” with the Tea Party devotees gaining both houses of Congress. New blood is coming into our government, and hope and change are in air, but it sure isn’t the hope and change President Obama had in mind.
